Chysocolla & malachite
description: LOCALITY: Star of Congo Mine, near Lubumbashi (formerly Elizabethville), Katanga Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo (TUC) 3" across This specimen consist of botryoidal, aqua-blue chrysocolla with botryoidal, chatoyent malachite on matrix. Star of Congo Mine was a major producer of mineral specimens prior to around 2001. Christophe Goban told me that he scattered the ashes of his father into and around this historically prolific mineral locality that built the Goban brothers' mineral specimen trading business. This piece during a visit to the Congo in late 2009. Although chrysocolla from this mine is not uncommon, this one is much more esthetic than most.
