Fluorite
description: LOCALITY: Denton Mine, Cave in Rock, Hardin County, Illinois, USA 4" on edge Southern Illinois is one of America's old mining districts. Hundreds of tons of high quality Illinois fluorite specimens were mined from Hardin County mines. Before 1990, Illinois fluorite was so prevalent at mineral shows worldwide that many collectors of that time saw any Illinois fluorite specimen as too "kitschy" to add to any sophisticated mineral collection. Since large scale mining ceased in Hardin County during the early 1990's, fine Illinois pieces have become regarded as American classics. This fine, lustrous, cubic fluorite crystal is yellow with a blue rim. This color combination is one of the most coveted by most appreciators of fine Hardin County fluorite specimens.
