description: LOCALITY: Hunan Province, China 5 1/2" across Ex Professor Stephen Smale collection. This piece was acquired via a trade with Steve in December 2013 when I visited Hong Kong. The piece consist of transparent cubic fluorite crystals. They are beveled on the edges. Hence, they are cube-octahedral in habit. The color is typical for the locality but appealing. The luster is high. Host rock is attached to the reverse side of this piece. Hence, this cluster of crystals has not been "hacked" or cleaved off a larger piece of fluorite. This flaw commonly afflicts fluorite specimens from this locality and most other worldwide localities for this popular species.
