Calcite twin on chert
description:
LOCALITY: Elmwood Mine, near Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, United States

Ex Dr Steve Neely and Keith Proctor collections.

The calcite twin in around 6" long

The calcite twin is pristine aside from a small rub near the twinning line. This rub is easier to feel than what it is to see. The crystal faces are as lustrous as polished glass. The calcite is mainly transparent and translucent in places. It is elegantly presented on a sparing amount of chert matrix.

I acquired this fine piece via a trade with Keith Proctor in early 2005. Since I was unable to attend the 2005 Tucson Show in person, Robert Sielecki brokered the trade between Keith and I.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
