Apatite
description:
LOCALITY: Urucum Mine, Galileia, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil

1 9/16" across

The apatite crystals are colorful and as lustrous as polished glass. The surfaces on the reverse side of this piece are also crystalline. This is a major purple apatite specimen that is at least as fine as almost all crystallized purple apatite specimens from Maine. Urucum is such a rare purple apatite locality that most advanced mineral specimen collectors do not know about it.

This piece was bought from Robert Lavinsky via his website in October 2015.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
