Association Pieces

Generally, mineral specimens that exhibit esthetic crystals of more than one species are more desirable because they are rarer.  It is easy to buy thousands of small, loose aquamarine crystals or thousands of loose schorl crystals any day of the week since both are common.  Fine specimens which exhibit esthetic crystals of both schorl and aquamarine are thousands of times rarer.  Hence, few collectors own a really fine schorl with aquamarine specimen.

In this gallery, see the common, popular and universally loved types of association pieces (for example, azurite with malachite) along with the almost as "rare as hens teeth", even more popular and even more universally loved types of association pieces (for example, dioptase on pearly-white crystalline calcite from Tsumeb).
