Azurite with malachite
description:
LOCALITY: Milpillas Mine, near Cananea, Sonora Province, Mexico

5" across

This is a wonderful cluster of "spear shaped" azurite crystals on a white matrix that is characteristic of the Milpillas Mine. The azurite crystals are partly covered by a veneer of malachite. It is a large and significant piece from what may be the world's best azurite locality.

This piece was traded from Evan Jones during a visit to the United States in late 2012.

Photo by Jeff Scovil and edited by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

NOTE: The original Scovil photo was taken under standard studio conditions. MW edited the original Scovil photo so that the "electric blue" or "neon blue" observed under typical showcase lighting is more evident in the photo.
