Azurite, Sepon Mine, Laos; 2" across

Most azurite specimens from Sepon are in fact malachite pseudomoprphs after azurite with a surface veneer of azurite. Since the specimen pictured on the above cover is not a partial pseudomorph, it "stands out." Before this piece was excavated, it was attached to a soft and fragile stalactite of manganese oxide which was destroyed during recovery of this piece.
