description:
LOCALITY: White Pine Mine, Ontonagon County, Michigan, United States

3" tall

The barite crystal is transparent and displays the luster of polished glass. One of the crystal ends is a termination. The barite crystal is on a matrix of native copper. Hence, this is a rare association piece. This type of association is documented in the mineralogical literature.

Under the microscope, it can be seen that one a copper spinal twin includes the barite crystal. The inclusion is continuous with part of the spinal twin outside the barite crystal.

This piece was bought from Ted Scholz of Stone Hut, South Australia (state) in mid 2013. He bought it from John and Maureen Weir of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory during the 1980's.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
