description:
LOCALITY: Milpillas Mine, near Cananea, Sonora Province, Mexico

5" across

This large brochantite specimen consist of lustrous, deep-green crystals on a white rock matrix. The brochantite crystals are translucent to transparent and glow deep green when back lit.

This is an upper level example of the species. I have also seen loose brochantite crystals up to 3" long and longer crystals on matrix. But these other pieces seemed too fragile to transport within the United States let alone from America to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

This piece was traded from Evan Jones during a visit to Arizona in late 2012.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
