description:
LOCALITY: Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia

1 3/4" Across

It is a representative specimen. Raspite and stolzite are both rare species that were only found in the early days of mining at Broken Hill. Stolzite and raspite are both lead tungstates. Stolzite occurs as crystals in the tetragonal crystal system while raspite crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system. Since raspite and stolzite are the same chemically but occur in two different crystal systems, they are diamorphs of each other.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
