Cabinet Sized Minerals

A cabinet specimen measures from 4" in any one dimension to no greater than 10" in any one dimension.  It is a piece that is "fist sized or larger".  This size range is the most popular with wealthy to ultrarich mineral collectors.  Pristine examples of even common minerals are relatively rare in this size range compared with "slightly scuffed" specimens.  "Slightly scuffed" may seem like a relatively trivial difference and some collectors on a "normal budget" do not understand why a pristine piece may be 10 times more expensive than one that is just "slightly scuffed."  The reason is that collectors at the top echelon of collecting will look closely at a piece to differentiate its quality.  Hence, damage that may have not been a major determinant of pricing during the 1970's (when there were fewer advanced and well monied mineral collectors) impacts greatly on the price of fine mineral specimens in the modern collector market.
