Calcite occurs at thousands of localities and shows more diversity of crystal form than any other mineral species. Despite being one of the most common mineral species, pristine calcite specimens are not really that common and cabinet sized calcite specimens sell for prices in the six figures.  The fine calcite specimens on the cover are from Russia, Australia, China and England.
