Copper with calcite
description:
2 1/4" across

LOCALITY: Quincy Mine, near Hancock, Houghton County, Keweenaw Peninsula, Michigan, United States

The Quincy Mine is one of the few places in the world to produce high quality display specimens of calcite with native copper.

The calcite crystals on this piece are lustrous and transparent with some veils and inclusions. The vertices and edges of the calcite crystals are generally in good condition. One face at the back of one of the calcite crystals is a cleavage face. This is not evident in the photo.

This piece was traded from Robert Lavinsky during a visit to his gallery in Dallas, Texas in March 2012.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
