Carrollite on calcite

LOCALITY: Kamoya South Mine, near Kambove, Katanga Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo

2 1/2" Tall

This piece consist of a sharp and lustrous crystal of carrollite (1 1/4" tall) on a contrasting matrix of bright-white calcite. Unfortunately, a crack is present near the junction of the carrollite crystal and the matrix. This crack devalues this piece substantially. Any type of matrix carrollite specimen is far rarer than a loose carrollite crystal. Carrollite reached its ultimate development at Katanga.
