description:
LOCALITY: Sakoany Deposit, near Katsepy Commune, Mahajanga Province, Madagascar

3 1/2" tall

This fine small cabinet specimen was traded from Dylan Stolowitz during a visit to upstate New York in March 2012. This piece was undoubtedly trimmed from a large geode. This style in presentation for Madagascan celestite has led to it recently become the type of mineral specimen suitable for collectors of small cabinet sized pieces. Madagascan celestite is regarded as "production rock" in the worldwide mineral specimen market. It will eventually become rare and expensive.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
