Cerussite

LOCALITY: Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia

3 1/4" across

Unlike most specimens of "straw cerussite" from Broken Hill, this one is free of damage and exhibits a silvery patina. It is a very choice specimen. Although mines still operate in Broken Hill, the oxidized zone has long been exhausted and any mineral specimens from the supergene zone of Broken Hill have to be from collections that are at least 23 years old.

This piece was bought from Ted Scholz of Stone Hut, South Australia (state) in mid 2013.
