description:
LOCALITY: De'an Mine, Jiangxi Province, China

8" across

All of the crystal faces are lightly frosted. The crystals are gemmy inside. All of the tips and edges are in perfect condition. Although the reverse side of this piece does not show planer crystal faces, the reverse side is crystalline and not contacted or broken. Hence, this piece was not removed from the mine after being cleaved from a larger piece of fluorite.

When one considers the size of this piece, that fluorite is a soft mineral and that it can be easily cleaved, the pristine condition of this piece is remarkable.

De'an has been a prolific fluorite producer and it would be easily to find thousands of pieces that are damaged. Most of these are merely commercial grade mineral specimens or decorator pieces and not fine pieces like this one.

This piece was bought from Robert Sielecki of Melbourne in 2014.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
