Cuprite, Onganja Mine, Namibia; 6 1/2" wide

Cuprite is copper oxide. It is a secondary mineral species found at many copper deposits. The Onganja Mine on Emke farm, Namibia produced some of the world's largest cuprite crystals during the 1980's.  Crystal faces of untreated Onganja cuprite crystals are covered by a desirable veneer of malachite.
