description:
LOCALITY: "Pimbi", Katanga province, Democratic Republic of the Congo

1 1/2" across

This specimen consist of a mound of emerald green crystals of dioptase. They are pristine. All of the crystals display the luster of polished glass. When I bought this piece during my visit to Katanga in late 2009, it was covered with dirt. The piece was cleaned and trimmed by Sandor Fuss and the export workers at his laboratory in Colorado.

This piece was bought in Lubumbashi during a visit there in late 2009.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
