Dioptase on calcite
description:
LOCALITY: Tsumeb, Namibia

4 1/2" across

The largest crystal is just short of 1" long

Refer to the illustration on page 85 of "50 Year History of The Tucson Show" published by "The Mineralogical Record" in 2004. The illustration is of a showcase of elite specimens of dioptase exhibited at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Society Show during the 1980's. At this time, Tsumeb was still producing dioptase.

Critical evaluation of my pictured specimen against almost all of the pieces in the illustration on page 85, would lead to my piece being judged as better.

This piece was bought from Doug Wallace of Dallas, Texas at the Denver Show in 2009.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
