description: LOCALITY: Huang Gang Mine, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China 3 3/8" across Ex Professor Stephen Smale collection. This piece was traded from Steve Smale during a visit to Hong Kong in November 2013. The piece consist of a single perfect, colorless octahedron of fluorite on a contrasting and well proportioned matrix. The fluorite crystal is around 1 1/4" on edge with slightly frosted faces. Its interior is completely transparent. The matrix consist of a sulfide rich rock. When this piece is cleaned, the matrix may display a somewhat metallic luster. Hence, this piece was sent to Sandor Fuss for cleaning shortly after I acquired it.
