Fluorite

LOCALITY: Fujian Province, China

12" across. It weighs over 20 kg.

This large "centerpiece" of a fluorite specimen displays the unusual trait of a green fluorite sphere perched on a colorless fluorite matrix. I have not seen fluorite from China or any other worldwide locality that displays the esthetic traits displayed by this enormous "show stopper" that would surely be at home in any specialized elite collection of large fluorite specimens, Chinese minerals, or very large and impressive mineral specimens that are unique in the world of mineral collecting.

Despite significant production of fluorite from several Chinese localities since 2006, I am yet to see another piece which matches this in terms of esthetics and general composition let alone size.

This piece was traded from Stuart Wilensky in 2006.
