Sperrylite with talnakhite
description:
LOCALITY: Norilsk, Siberia, Russia

Sperrylite is a platinum diarsenide. Any mineral species that contains platinum is rare. Some of the finest specimens of sperrylite in existence are from Norilsk. This remote city is home to the world's largest smelter. It is one of the few cities of over 100,000 that is north of the Arctic circle. Talnakhite is chemically related to chalcopyrite. It is not a rare species at Norilsk. This important specimen is 2 1/4" across. It is a hefty and impressive piece.
