Hematite
description:
LOCALITY: Kuruman, Northern Cape Province, South Africa

5" across

This piece consist of a spectacular druse of mirror bright, razor sharp hematite crystals that have totally covered a matrix. One crystal on this piece is damaged and this damage can be seen in this illustration. I have been advised that the damage could be rendered less of a detraction by a professional in the art and science of mineral specimen prep work. Hence, this piece would benefit from work that can only be done by a professional mineral specimen preparator.

This piece was bought from Ronnie McKenzie of Pretoria, South Africa during a visit to his home in late 2009. The piece was later traded out to Evan Jones in late 2012 and even later traded back into the Webb collection when Evan exercised the return option that I give all of my collecting partners.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
