Cavansite on stilbite
description:
LOCALITY: Wagholi, Maharastra, India

3 1/2" across

Ex Houston Museum of Natural Sciences collection.

The nice thing about this particular piece is that the cavansite ball is a little over 1" across and a little bowtie of cavansite is perched on the top of it. The cavansite ball is also right in the middle of the basaltic matrix which is encrusted by stilbite microcrystals. One could not ask for more for a cavansite specimen of this size. This has been part of my collection since 1995 despite the thousands of other fine cavansite specimens I have seen over the years.

This piece was traded from Robert Lavinsky in 1995 via the mail. I only started to travel to the United States in January 1998.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
