description:
LOCALITY: Burra Burra, South Australia (state), Australia

3 1/4" Across

Ex David Cowan collection

This piece appeared on one of the pages of a calender published by The Waverley Gem Club Incorporated during the late 1970's. The Waverley Club was famous for holding the best mineral show in Australia for a few years during the late 1970's. The shows were world class mineral shows by standards of the day. They came to an abrupt end before 1980 when most of the members driving organisation of these quality mineral shows "voted on their feet" and decided to cease being WGC members.

It is arguably the most famous Burra Burra malachite specimen in existence.

This piece was bought from David Cowan of Adelaide, South Australia (state) in 2013 during a visit to his home. It had formerly been in the collection of the late Brian Shelton of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
