Malachite, Burra Burra, South Australia; 3" Across

Burra Burra was mostly mined in the 19th century. In this era, copper ore was converted to copper ingots. Today, an industrial standard for wholesale copper is the copper cathode. The reduction of divalent copper cations in an aqueous copper sulfate solution to metallic copper at an electrode when current is applied gives rise to the production of copper cathode. It is a modern industrial standard that a copper mining and metallurgical company will comply with.
