Malachite

LOCALITY: Katanga province, Democratic Republic of the Congo

5" tall

Although perceived as common by most collectors, malachite of this quality from the Congo probably represents less than 1% of total malachite specimen production. I handled around 1500 kilograms of Congo malachite in 2009 and 2010 and I kept this piece because of its freedom from damage, high luster and lack of contact with other debris normally encountered in malachite-containing pockets.

This piece was bought during a visit to Lubumbashi, DRC in late 2009.
