Azurite, Milpillas Mine, Sonora, Mexico
description: 1 3/4" ac This miniature is "linarite blue." When azurite crystals from any locality display this color, they are infact malachite pseudomorphs after azurite with a thin veneer of azurite over the pseudomorph. If mining had never occured at Milpillas, this entire piece would have eventually been completely pseudomorphed to malachite. All azurite eventually will alter to malachite. Understanding of whether this is a pseudomorph or not is immaterial to the value of this piece. As far as the collector of display minerals is concerned, it is a wonderful azurite miniature with the most intense color one could expect for this species.
