Colorful hedenbergite is rare. This specimen consist of four relatively large crystals of hedenbergite that are as lustrous as polished glass. Only the uppermost face of the crystal at the far left hand side of this piece can be seen in this photo. This elite specimen was pictured in "Minerals of Broken Hill" published by the Broken Hill City Council in conjunction with "The Museum of Victoria", Melbourne. It was formerly in the collection of the late Milton Lavers of Broken Hill. His collection was sold to Ian Bruce in 2014. The author traded this piece from Ian on 6th December 2015.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
