description:
4" across

Locality: Sokalovskiy Mine, near Rudniy, Kazakhstan

Thousands of loose, golden, transparent, twinned calcite crystals were removed from this locality. Unlike this piece, very few of them were on matrix. The matrix of this piece is basaltic and is covered by an earlier generation of much smaller calcite crystals. The calcite twin is well over 1 1/2" thick but despite this, it is possible to see through the top of the crystal and all the way down to the matrix.

I bought this piece from Robert Sielecki of Melbourne during a visit to "Crystal Universe" in Port Melbourne. I cannot remember the year that I bought this piece.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
