Dioptase on calcite
description:
LOCALITY: Altyn Tjube, Kazakhstan

1 3/4" across

This dioptase specimen approaches a medium level Tsumeb dioptase specimen in terms of general quality. Its desirable traits are the acceptable crystal to matrix ratio, contrasting matrix and crystal separation which allows the geometry of the individual dioptase crystals to be best appreciated. The luster of the dioptase crystals is moderately high and the composition of the piece is pleasing.

This piece was bought from Cal Graeber and Leonard Himes at the Denver Show in 2009.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
