Neptunite on natrolite
description:
LOCALITY: Dallas Gem Mine, San Benito County, California, United States

From memory, this impressive plate of neptunite crystals was around 6" tall. The relatively remote locality in central California that produced neptunite is undoubtedly the world's greatest locality for neptunite and benitoite. Although many collectors would not consider acquiring this piece because of the absence of benitoite, in the opinion of the author, since it is an important neptunite specimen, it is highly desirable despite having no benitoite content.

This piece was part of the display collection of fine mineral specimens at "The Flandrau Musuem", University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
