Malachite after azurite #4
description:
LOCALITY: Tsumeb, Namibia

3 1/2" tall

This malachite pseudomorph after azurite is particularly fine for the following reasons:

(a) It is considerably larger than average.

(b) The color is pleasing.

(c) The texture is pleasing. The surfaces shimmer in the light.

(d) The association with the white and contrasting somewhat lustrous calcite crystals is appealing. They display different morphology to most calcite from Tsumeb which is rhombohedral in shape.

(e) The general composition of this piece is pleasing. The white calcite does not "overpower" the malachite.

This is the second finest malachite pseudomorph after azurite in my collection.

This piece was traded from Marshall Sussman during a visit to his home in Tucson, Arizona during late 2012. This piece was also formerly in the collection of Carl Acosta of Las Angeles, California.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
