Linwood started to produce fine barite specimens in early 2012 and production has steadily increased since then. Although Linwood is a very large limestone quarry, one can never tell how long production will last. Despite the apparent abundance of fine quality Linwood barite specimens in late 2017, fine quality barite specimens from Linwood are relatively rare compared with other types of mineral specimens that were once much more common but today are hard to find in any quantity even at major international mineral specimen shows.

Linwood is the largest limestone quarry in the United States. More recently, underground mining has taken place at Linwood. It operates for 24 hours per day, 365 days per year and supplies clients all over the United States via barges down the nearby Mississippi River and via rail. A railway line is adjacent to the quarry. Limestone reserves at Linwood are vast and it will be mined for at least the next 80 years.
