Crocoite, Adelaide Mine, Dundas, Tasmania
description: 5 1/2" ac. Ex Albert Chapman and Warren Somerville collections. I acquired traded it from Robert Sielecki in late 2004 after he acquired a large part of the Somerville collection. It is a wonderful crocoite which displays an appearance characteristic of the era that it was removed. This style of crocoite is coveted by anyone who loves this species and who has a knowledge of the history of production of the "Rolls Royce" of crocoite mines since the early 1970's. The acicular crystals are bright orange, lustrous and well separated. One of the crystals may be a floater or it may be attached to other crystals which shoot up from the underlying matrix.
