description:
LOCALITY: Cunha Baixi Mine, near Mangualde, Beira Alta province, Portugal

2 1/2" across

The locality is a little known uranium mine which has also produced some other secondary uranium minerals which included saleeite and torbernite. This fine piece is the only display quality specimen of what is probably one of the finest examples of this meta stable species from this locality in existence. I bought it from Victor Yount at the Tucson Show in 2010. Among other things, Victor is a renowned expert in Spanish and Portugese mineral specimens. The fluorescence of this piece is spectacular under long, medium and short wave UV light.

This piece was bought from Victor Yount at the Westward Look Mineral Show, Tucson in 2006.

Photo by Matthew Webb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
