Plumbogummite after pyromorphite
description:
LOCALITY: Yangshuo Mine, Yangshuo County, Guilin Prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang, China

3 1/2" across

Plumbogummite reached its ultimate development at The Yangshuo Mine and this is a fine example. It is one of the best specimens in this size range. It features unusually fine replaced pyromorphite crystals displaying sharp and well defined terminations. This specimen shows how the pseudomorphs grew from both the top and bottom of a thin septum of matrix. The crystals, to 3.7 cm in length, exhibit only incipient hopper growth, especially when compared with other specimens from production at this locality. As a result, the pseudomorphs display a much less etched appearance about them.

The pseudomorphs are a lovely sky blue color, yet remnants remain at the crystal bases of the original, lustrous, olive-green pyromorphite crystals. Hence, it is in fact a partial pseudomorph.

This fine specimens stands upright without the need for a stand. It also displays well with both horizontal and vertical mounting.

This piece was acquired via a trade with Robert Lavinsky in late 2016. It was one of his favorite pieced in a large lot of plumbogummbogummite pseudomorphs after pyromorphite that he sourced directly from China.

Photo taken by www.irocks.com
