Calcite ps danburrite, San Luis Potosi, Mexico
description: 4" tall. This specimen consist of what used to be a relatively large crystal of danburrite (a relatively uncommon boron-containing silicate that one would expect to be stable under a wide range of geological conditions) which has been completely replaced by colorless but gemmy calcite. Although the color and clarity of this pseudomorph may not be evident from the photo, these qualities soon became evident after a little of the brown coating on the surfaces of this pseudomorph were gently picked off with plastic tweezers. Complete removal of this coating will be best achieved by a professional mineral specimen preparator. $3000
