Fluorite and quartz
description:
LOCALITY: Erongo Mountains, Namibia

4" tall

LOCALITY: Erongo Mountains, Namibia

Most of the world's fluorite specimens are removed from Mississippi Valley Type Deposits (for example, southern Illinois, northern Spain and northern England). Some of the world's great fluorite specimens came from polymetallic skarn deposits (for example, Dal'negorsk and Huang Gang Mine, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China). Something that sets this piece apart is that it is a fine fluorite specimen from a granite pegmatite.

The quartz crystals are lustrous and gemmy with pristine edges and vertices. The fluorite is moderately gemmy and lustrous with a pleasing shade of green.

I traded this piece from Dylan Stolowitz during a visit to New York in early 2012.
