Quartz after barite

LOCALITY: Ouray, Ouray County, Colorado, United States

3 7/8" long

This mineral specimen began its life as a barite crystal. White drusy quartz crystals (seen in the photo) later completely encrusted the barite crystal. Subterranean solutions later dissolved the barite crystal to leave behind the quartz cast after barite seen in this photo. This piece is characteristic of this locality.

I bought this piece from Carl Acosta in late 2012 during a meeting in Blythe, California.
