Cuprosklodowskite, Musonoi Mine, Katanga, DRC
description: 6" across Ex Marc P Weill collection. Acquired from Dylan Stolowitz at the Denver Show in 2009. It is an outstanding rarity and one of the top examples of this ultra rare uranium bearing silicate species in private hands. It is such a rare mineral in the form of display specimens that it is not represented in most collections since it is almost impossible to buy in a quality level suitable for most display mineral collections. Musonoi is a mine within 40 km of the mining center of Kolwezi in Katanga province. Since it is a working uranium mine, mineral collecting on this is prohibited. Musonoi is also famous for being the world's premier locality for torbernite. I would much like a high quality Musonoi torbernite for my collection as well. :)
