Red Beryl
description: This is a very fine quality example of red beryl. Red beryl is a prized gem and crystals suitable for cutting only occurred at The Ruby-Violet claims in the Wah Wah Mountains of Beaver County, Utah, United States. The Utah Geological Survey estimated that! only one crystal of red beryl is found for every 150,000 gem quality diamonds! Red beryl also occurred as unfacetable millimeter long crystals at other Utah localities including Wildhorse Springs, Topaz Valley and Starvation Canyon. Tiny crystals were also found at The Beryllium Virgin Prospect, Black Range, East Grants Ridge, New Mexico and San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Red beryl crystals owe their color to a trace of manganese in the idealized beryl crystal lattice.
