description:
LOCALITY: Ratnapura, Sri Lanka

3" tall

The weight of this crystal is 80 grams. It is one of the largest yellow sapphire crystals in existence. The crystal is pale yellow with even color saturation throughout. The luster is moderate and the crystal is almost entirely translucent. All sapphire crystals from Ratnapura are found in an alluvial setting so are commonly very rounded. This crystal is unusually sharp.

I acquired this piece via a trade with Robert Lavinsky in late 2016.
