Copper and calcite
description: LOCALITY: Quincy Mine, Houghton County, Michigan, United States 2 3/8" across These rare combination specimens were produced from the Quincey Mine. Since calcite is such a soft mineral with three planes of perfect cleavage, few high quality pieces were preserved. This one is above average because the faces of the calcite crystals are lustrous. The edges of the calcite crystals are also in good condition. One does not have to use imagination to see the copper on this piece either. Although it is not evident in the photo, one of the faces on one of the calcite crystals is a cleavage face. If this piece was not damaged in this way, it would be an upper level piece instead of a very fine one.
