Smithsonite on tennantite
description:
LOCALITY: Tsumeb, Namibia

5" across

This is the only example of its type that I have ever seen. The piece consists of sharp crystals of tennantite that are encrusted with very pale pink crystals of cobaltian smithsonite. The smithsonite is also not of the more typical rhombohedral or hexagonal bipyramid habits.

I obtained this piece in a trade with Marshall Sussman during a visit to his home in Tucson in mid 2012.
