Gold nugget
description:
LOCALITY: Maryborough, Victoria, Australia

c 3" tall

Cyril Kovacic bought this piece in 2001 after his daughter scouted it from a fine art auction. Cyril then consigned it to Robert Sielecki. He took it to the Denver Show in September 2001. Robert Lavinsky almost bought this piece at the Denver Show but as a result of 9-11, many of his "Virtual Show" clients cancelled their orders so Robert was unable to buy this piece with revenue anticipated from the virtual show.

At the end of the 2001 Denver Show, Robert Sielecki bought this piece back to Melbourne. I paid AU$70,000 for it. This was six times "spot gold" price during a time when the Australian dollar was trading at only AUD$1 = US$0.65. In late 2004, I retraded this piece back to Robert Sielecki. In the trade, I acquired a cabinet sized Adelaide Mine crocoite, a fine small cabinet sized Bunker Hill pyromorphite, a fine Brazilian amblygonite crystal, a "pocket rhodonite" on calcite from Broken Hill and a superb Telfer Mine chalcocite crystal twin later resold to Ralph Clark of Colorado.

This piece is still part of Robert Sielecki's collection and appears on the "Ausrox Gold" business card. This piece was also pictured in the "Gold" edition of "ExtraLapis" magazine.
