description:
LOCALITY: Chwanning III Mine, near Kuruman, Northern Cape Province, South Africa

1 3/4" across

It is a perfect sphere of olmeite. Most olmeite specimens from Kuruman are only hemispheres. It has been photographed under artificial light. In sunlight, the piece fades to salmon orange. I value this piece very highly because the shape is different from the shape of thousands of other specimens of South African olmeite. It is a complete sphere.

This piece was traded from Robert Lavinsky during a visit to his gallery in Dallas, Texas during mid 2012. I trade it out to Professor Stephen Smale during a visit to Hong Kong in January 2016.

Matthew Webb collection and photo
