Topaz crystal, Yunnan province, China
description: 4 1/2" tall. This large and bold topaz crystal is from the Yunnan province side of the Burmese-Chinese border. Topaz crystals found on either side of the border are from the same intrusive igneous formation. The desirable traits of this specimen are: (a) All of the crystal faces display the luster of polished glass. (b) Almost all of this crystal is facet quality. (c) The color is appealing although I have seen more deeply colored crystals from this locality. (d) It is roughly fist sized and is much larger than the average high quality topaz crystal from this locality. I have seen only one larger loose crystal from the same locality. Some damage is present near the tip of the termination. This can be seen in the photo. Although this damage is a detraction, it does not "kill" what is still a high quality piece in an overall sense.
